No fresh cases in 42 districts in 28 days, clinical trials for plasma therapy gets nod

Delhi, the capital is likely to see a “peak” in coronavirus cases in June-July as number of cases in India crossed 56,000. Globally, at least 38,15,561 people have been infected, including 2,67,469 deaths and 12,66,479 recoveries.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has received approval to conduct clinical trials of convalescent plasma therapy in 21 hospitals, the Health Ministry informed Friday during its evening briefing. In the last 24 hours, about 3,390 fresh Covid-19 cases have been reported pan-India totalling to 56,342 cases, including 1,886 deaths and 16,539 recovered.
 

India’s doubling time in relation to the spread of the virus, which was 12 days, has reduced, the ministry informed. About 216 districts have, so far, been spared by the coronavirus, while no fresh cases have been reported in 42 districts in the last 28 days.

Earlier in the day, sixteen migrant workers in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district were crushed to death by a local train as they were journeying home. The workers, who were walking to Bhusawal from Jalna to board a “Shramik Special” train to return to Madhya Pradesh, were sleeping on the railway line when the mishap occurred between Badnapur and Karmad stations in Nanded Division.

After India launched its ‘Vande Bharat mission’ to bring home Indians stranded abroad due to the international travel lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday, today, the first flight carrying Indian students who are stranded in Bangladesh’s Dhaka will land in Srinagar. The first two Air India repatriation flight carrying a total of 363 Indian nationals from the UAE landed in Kochi and Kozhikode on Thursday.

On the global front, at least 38,15,561 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus worldwide, including 2,67,469 deaths and 12,66,479 recoveries.

As part of evacuation operation under 'Vande Bharat Mission', an Air India flight from Singapore landed in Delhi today with 240 Indian Nationals.
