APRNEWS - Ousted Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir has been transferred from a holding facility into jail, multiple reports have confirmed.

He was forced out of power a little over a week ago by the military on the back of massive protests. The Transitional Military Council, TMC, confirmed his arrest days after his ouster.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the TMC, received phone calls from the Saudi king, UAE president, Qatari emir, Ethiopian prime minister and South Sudanese president, SUNA said on Monday. They expressed support for the TMC in “this delicate and historic stage” and their concern for the security and stability of the country, SUNA said.

APRNEWS - Sudan’s military council has appointed a new intelligence chief and removed defence minister Awad Ibn Aouf from his role, a spokesman said on Sunday.

Lieutenant General Abu Bakr Mustafa will replace Salah Abdallah Mohamed Saleh, known as Salah Gosh, as chief of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Shams El Din Kabbashi Shinto said.

APRNEWS - Sudan’s Defence Minister Awad Ibn Aouf said on Friday that he is stepping down as head of the country’s transitional military council, a day after former president Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in a coup.

Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan will be the new head of the transitional military council, Ibn Aouf said in a speech broadcast on state television on Friday.

APRNEWS - The Sudanese army issued a statement on Wednesday saying it would not allow the state to collapse, following weeks of mass protests demanding an end to President Omar al-Bashir’s 30-year rule.

Some activists had been calling for the military to back the protesters and pressure the government to step down.
