APRNEWS - Libya's key political players meet with global leaders in the southern Italian city of Palermo Monday in the latest bid by major powers to kickstart a long-stalled political process and trigger elections.

APRNEWS - The federal Government of Somalia, FGS, on Wednesday welcomed home a total of 124 nationals who were stranded in Libya for years.

The Somali Prime minister, Ali Hassan Khaire, who tweeted the news said the returnees “are finally home to start a new life as FGS steps up efforts catering to its nationals wherever they are.”

REUTERS - Several armed men attacked the headquarters of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) in the capital Tripoli on Monday, killing at least two staff members, a security official said.

In the first attack of its kind against the top managers of Libya’s state oil industry, two of the gunmen were also killed and at least 10 NOC staff wounded, officials said.

APRNEWS - Hundreds of African migrants who fled the violence in Tripoli to a farm land south-west of the capital have been relocated to a detention centre on Tuesday.

APRNEWS - The UN migration agency says African migrants who were rejected by Italy last week said they had been held by smugglers for up to two years in Libya and many had been beaten, tortured and raped.

REUTERS - At least four people were killed in a gun attack by suspected militants on a checkpoint east of the Libyan capital Tripoli on Thursday, a local official and a resident said.

The attack took place between the towns of Zliten and Khoms on the coastal road leading from Tripoli to the port city of Misrata, Zliten mayor Miftah Hamadi said.

REUTERS - Libya’s coastguard picked up 490 migrants off the coast of Tripoli on Sunday in the third rescue operation of the day.

THEGUARDIAN - More than 100 east African migrants escaped from a camp in the Libyan town of Bani Walid where they were being held hostage and tortured, international agencies and local sources said Saturday.

The migrants from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia fled on Wednesday night to a mosque in the town where they were taken in by local associations and residents.
