What you need to know about the ECB's banking watchdog

APRNEWS - The European Central Bank's governing council will Wednesday announce its preferred candidate to succeed France's Daniele Nouy as head of the eurozone's banking watchdog.

Gunning for the high-profile job are Sharon Donnery, deputy governor of Ireland's central bank, the president of France's banking regulator Robert Ophele and Italy's Andrea Enria, chair of the European Banking Authority.

Services at Madrid, Barcelona train stations disrupted by security alerts

REUTERS - Two trains lines were temporarily shut down at Barcelona’s main station on Wednesday after a security scanner detected a possible explosive device inside a suitcase, but police later declared there was no danger.

Madrid’s Atocha train station was also evacuated on Wednesday on police orders, Spanish train company Renfe said, but that incident turned out to be a false alarm.
