PSG fined by UEFA for crowd trouble

APRNEWS - Paris Saint-Germain have escaped with a fine from European football’s governing body UEFA following crowd trouble at their Champions League home game against Red Star Belgrade in October.
The French giants ran the risk of being forced to play their next home European match — against Manchester United in the Champions League last 16 second leg in March — behind closed doors.

Senegal's Sadio Mane, Egypt's Mo Salah nominated for Ballon d'Or

APRNEWS - Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah have been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or football trophy that is awarded to the best player in the world by France Football magazine.

Salah and Mane were nominated after their record breaking season with English club side, Liverpool that saw them reach the Champions League final that they lost to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo ‘furious’ at losing to Modric for UEFA player of year

APRNEWS - Cristiano Ronaldo was hopping mad at losing out to Croatia star Luka Modric for the UEFA Player of the Year, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri revealed on Friday.

Real Madrid and Croatia midfield star Modric beat his former teammate Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to the prize which was awarded on Thursday in Monaco.

VAR in Champions League only from 2019-20 season, say UEFA

APRNEWS - UEFA are set to wait until next season before introducing Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in the Champions League, although they are still not ruling out having it in this season’s final, president Aleksander Ceferin said on Friday.

Ceferin has so far resisted calls to bring VAR into Europe’s elite club competition, despite the system largely proving successful at the World Cup in Russia.
