Sudan: Islamists reject joint Civil-Military Council

APRNEWS - Sudanese opposition party, the Popular Congress Party, PCP, has distanced itself from the joint Civil-Military Council, agreement reached Sunday by protest leaders and the ruling military council.

In a press conference on Sunday, the party said it did not recognize the coalition formed to lead the transition and called for the appointment of a Christian as Prime Minister.

Egypt hosts African leaders discussing Sudan protests, Libya crisis

APRNEWS - African leaders are meeting in Egypt on Tuesday where they will address developments in Sudan and Libya, in the first emergency summits since the two nations were rocked by popular protests and an invasion on the capital respectively.

In Sudan, protests that started in December last year continue even after the military toppled president Omar al-Bashir.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the TMC, received phone calls from the Saudi king, UAE president, Qatari emir, Ethiopian prime minister and South Sudanese president, SUNA said on Monday. They expressed support for the TMC in “this delicate and historic stage” and their concern for the security and stability of the country, SUNA said.

Sudan's military council names new intelligence chief

APRNEWS - Sudan’s military council has appointed a new intelligence chief and removed defence minister Awad Ibn Aouf from his role, a spokesman said on Sunday.

Lieutenant General Abu Bakr Mustafa will replace Salah Abdallah Mohamed Saleh, known as Salah Gosh, as chief of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Shams El Din Kabbashi Shinto said.

Sudan defence minister steps down as head of transitional military council

APRNEWS - Sudan’s Defence Minister Awad Ibn Aouf said on Friday that he is stepping down as head of the country’s transitional military council, a day after former president Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in a coup.

Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan will be the new head of the transitional military council, Ibn Aouf said in a speech broadcast on state television on Friday.
