May 15, 2019: South Sudan president comments on crisis
The military junta that deposed Omar al-Bashir have agreed a deal transition deal with the opposition alliance. This follows weeks of back and forth over post-Bashir Sudan.

APRNEWS - About $20 million will be required to implement the peace deal in South Sudan, the country’s deputy minister of foreign affairs Deng Dau Deng announced this week.

APRNEWS - In an interesting reversal of roles, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir will mediate peace talks between the government of neighbouring Sudan and rebels in the Blue Nile, South Kordofan and Darfur conflict zones.

APRNEWS - There is some new level of excitement and hope in South Sudan following rebel leader Riek Machar’s return to the capital Juba on Wednesday. Machar’s return was to celebrate a peace deal more than two years after fierce fighting erupted in the city which forced him to flee.

President Salva Kiir in order to reinforce the peace deal ordered the release of a jailed advisor to Machar.

REUTERS - South Sudan rebel leader Riek Machar will return to the capital Juba to celebrate a peace deal on Wednesday, his group said, more than two years after he fled the country after the collapse of an earlier accord.

Machar’s office said he would hold joint peace celebrations with his long-time rival, President Salva Kiir, in Juba - though there was no immediate confirmation from the government

APRNEWS - The South Sudan peace deal hit yet another snag on Tuesday as rebel leader Riek Machar refused to sign the latest draft of a peace deal with the Juba government that would end a years-long conflict, Sudan’s foreign minister said.

Lul Ruai Koang, spokesman for the government military SPLA said rebels attacked Maban in Upper Nile state in the far northeast near the border with Sudan on Sunday.
