‘This could have been a Breonna Taylor:’ Police stormed a Black student’s dorm after a false report

Christin Evans was suddenly awakened in the early hours of Sept. 14 by the sound of campus police storming into her dorm room at Stephen F. Austin State University with guns drawn and bright lights shining into her eyes.

A resident adviser had called campus police after a group of students, which included Evans’ three White roommates, said that Evans, who is Black, had threatened them, her lawyer, Randall Kallinen, said at a news conference on Monday.

Serena finds it weird to stay in hotel instead of her Paris home

As part of the COVID-19 protocols, the French Open organisers have told all participants to stay in two designated hotels, unlike the U.S. Open which allowed staying in private accommodation.

Williams was one of the players who rented a private home for the tournament at Flushing Meadows.

China says WHO gave blessing for coronavirus vaccine emergency use programme

The World Health Organization gave China its support and understanding to start administering experimental coronavirus vaccines to people while clinical trials were still underway, a Chinese health official said on Friday.

China launched its emergency programme in July, having communicated with the WHO in late June, according to Zheng Zhongwei, a National Health Commission official.

Nigerian gas tanker explosion kills at least 28

At least 28 people were killed on Wednesday when a gas tanker exploded in the central Nigerian state of Kogi and started a blaze, a road safety agency official said.

Bisi Kazeem, spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), said nine children were involved in the accident, which happened opposite a petrol station along Lokoja-Zariagi highway in the state.

In past console generations you tended to think about Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo in fairly concrete terms.  Nintendo was the outlier, forging its own strange path with consoles like the Wii, 3DS and Switch. These were consoles less about processing grunt and more about curating unique, tactile experiences.
