Ghana : Supreme Court to rule on Mahama’s application to inspect EC’s documents today

The Supreme Court will later today, Wednesday, February 3, 2021, continue the hearing of the 2020 Election Petition case filed by the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

The court on Tuesday discharged Mr. Mahama’s 2nd witness, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte after being cross-examined by counsel for 1st and 2nd Respondents.

Ghanaian schools to reopen amid virus wave fears

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced dates for reopening of schools across the country amid fears of a second coronavirus wave in the west African country.

Schools were shut in March last year after the country reported its first case of the virus. Since then more than 55,000 cases have been confirmed, with 54,005 recoveries and more than 300 deaths.

Ghana economy contracts for the first time in nearly four decades

Ghana’s economy contracted for the first time in almost four decades in the second quarter, by an annual 3.2%, hit by the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

The gold-, oil-, and cocoa-producing West African nation imposed a three-week lockdown at the start of the pandemic in March, leading to the shutdown of numerous businesses, government statistician Samuel Kobina Annim told a news conference.

Ghana to lose $300 million as a consequence of bearing price drop of cocoa on the international market

Outrage in Ghana over viral video of police assault on woman

APRNEWS- Ghana’s social media space – Facebook and Twitter – has been buzzing with a call for the arrest of a police officer for assaulting a nursing mother.

A viral video shows the said officer in what starts like a tussle with the woman in a banking hall. Subsequently, he is seen hitting the woman with an umbrella and slapping her on the face.
