Locals in Nigeria's northeastern city of Maiduguri have been without power for a week after jihadists blew up supply lines from the national electricity grid.

It has caused water shortages disruptions to daily life and businesses.

Some of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram nearly seven years ago have finally escaped from their captors, a father of one of the girls told CNN.

Halima Ali Maiyanga, one of more than 100 young women still missing, called her father to say she and others had managed to flee Boko Haram militants Thursday.

APRNEWS - A search was underway Wednesday for several Niger soldiers missing since an ambush by armed men the day before left several of their colleagues injured, security sources said.

A military patrol was ambushed Tuesday afternoon near the village of Tongo Tongo in the western Tillaberi region near the border with Mali. One of the military vehicles had set off an explosive device.

APRNEWS - Media outlets in Nigeria are reporting the kidnap of the father-in-law of President Buhari’s aide-de-camp. The incident is said to have happened on Wednesday evening in Daura.

The reports said gunmen kidnapped Musa Umar, a tarditional leader in the area. His son-in-law happens to be Colonel Mohammed Abubakar, Buhari’s military aide.

APRNEWS - Five soldiers were killed after Boko Haram militants attacked a military base in northeastern Nigeria, military sources reported on Monday.

APRNEWS - Islamic State-backed Boko Haram faction has claimed to have killed 10 Nigerian troops in an attack in Sabon Gari, northeast of Biu town in Borno State.

The terror group in a broadcast on its Amaq News Agency said it killed 10 Nigerian soldiers, left many wounded while a soldier was captured.
