Big scandal - The court of accounts makes a report ... 74 Billion disappeared?

We have just learned of a big financial scandal within the Ivorian Treasury.

The Court noted that the repayments of bond loans, Treasury bonds and Treasury bills are not tracked in the General Account of the Finance Administration and a difference of 73,771,744,061 F between the amount of personnel expenses recorded in the presentation report of the regulatory bill (1 629 081 436 302 F) and that appearing in the CGAF (1 702 853 180 363 F).

US bans cotton and tomato products from China's Xinjiang region over forced labor concerns

The US has banned imports of cotton products and tomatoes produced in China's Xinjiang region over forced labor concerns, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said on Wednesday.
The agency said the region-wide ban was "based on information that reasonably indicates the use of detainee or prison labor and situations of forced labor," saying it had found examples of debt bondage, restriction of movement, isolation, intimidation and threats, withholding of wages, and abusive living and working conditions.

Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane scored as they opened the new Bundesliga season with a demolition of Schalke.

Leroy Sane, making his debut after a £44.7m move from Manchester City, assisted two of Gnabry's goals.

Ghana economy contracts for the first time in nearly four decades

Ghana’s economy contracted for the first time in almost four decades in the second quarter, by an annual 3.2%, hit by the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

The gold-, oil-, and cocoa-producing West African nation imposed a three-week lockdown at the start of the pandemic in March, leading to the shutdown of numerous businesses, government statistician Samuel Kobina Annim told a news conference.

Severe floods hit 760,000 people in West and Central Africa

Nigerien student Hachimou Abdou has had to catch a boat to classes since river water swamped his route to university in the capital Niamey - one of about 760,000 people hit by severe flooding in recent weeks in parts of West and Central Africa.

Floods are common during the rainy season, but in recent years climate change, land degradation and poor urban planning have led to more frequent disasters as rapidly-growing cities struggle with heavier-than-normal rainfall.

Semenya loses appeal against CAS ruling over testosterone regulations

Double Olympic 800 metres champion Caster Semenya has lost her appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal (SFT) to set aside a 2019 Court of Arbitration (CAS) ruling that female athletes with high natural testosterone levels must take medication to reduce it.

But the South African has indicated that she may continue her battle in the European and domestic courts ahead of the Olympics in Tokyo next year, vowing to “fight for human rights”.
