APRNEWS - About $20 million will be required to implement the peace deal in South Sudan, the country’s deputy minister of foreign affairs Deng Dau Deng announced this week.

This announcement is made after the deputy minister of finance Goc Mokwatch declared that the parliament has approved a budget of the same volume for the implementation of the peace deal.  For the time being, only $1.6 million has been mobilized by the country that is requiring the international community’s help.

"If you don't have resources, you cannot move", Deng indicated in statements reported by VOA Afrique.  "It is availability of the resources that will actually enhance the process itself", he added.

Since December 2013, South Sudan has been going through a civil war that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. This war is between the acting president Salva Kiir and his rival and former vice-president Riek Machar who said he wanted to start a coup. In September 2018, an umpteenth peace deal signed by the two rivals revived hopes of an end to the conflict that has already led to more than 4 million refugees fleeing the violence in the world's youngest country.
