APRNEWS - The European Union will approve a financing worth $60 million to fight insecurity in Burkina Faso. The European Union Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica (photo) said this week.

According to information relayed by Xinhua, the amount will help implement the “Sahel Emergency Program” (Programme d’urgence pour le Sahel) initiated by the government. The program aims to reduce insecurity level in northern Burkina Faso, one of the poorest regions in the country, which has been under terrorist attack for about three years. It will help the government to ensure a better access to basic social services by vulnerable populations in this part of the country.

Let’s note that Burkina Faso will benefit from an additional $1.1 million granted by the European institution to build capacities of its decentralized structures within the Sahel region. The 3-year emergency plan was launched in 2017 and scheduled to end in 2020.
